An incredibly special piece of IKEA design history. The MOMENT LYX sofa was designed by Danish designer Niels Gammelgaard for IKEA in 1985. “LYX” means luxury in Swedish, and this is the rare original leather edition of the iconic MOMENT sofa.
The MOMENT is considered the world’s first flat-pack sofa. Its brilliant silver-toned steel mesh frame was inspired by the construction of shopping carts and designed to be completely dismantled for easy transport. The oversized leather cushions and matching armrests soften its industrial frame, giving it that perfect mix of comfort and cool 1980s Scandinavian design.
The MOMENT appeared on the cover of IKEA’s 1985 catalogue and has since become one of the most recognizable and collectible designs from the IKEA archives. The leather LYX edition is especially difficult to find and truly, it’s even better in person.
